Bios

Dennis Jackson is of Cree ancestry from northern Saskatchewan and a family man who shares his career in film and television with his life long partner, Melanie Jackson.   Together they produce Aboriginal documentaries and animation that have screened on Canadian television networks and won awards and acclaim both nationally and internationally.

Dennis is committed to producing and directing programs involving Aboriginal content with language retention.   He is also strives to building his expertise as a creative producer and, to that end, in 2003 completed the Aboriginal Writing for Series Television program at the prestigious Banff Centre of the Arts.   He has also completed the National Screen Institute's Totally Television Program, which develops and mentors filmmakers during the development phase of new projects.

As a as Producer/Director, Dennis has also expanded his track record working also with other companies on productions including the award winning Heartbeat of the Earth for Y'atthe Askiy Productions.   The 13 part half-hour series won the Telefilm Canada/Aboriginal Peoples Television Network Award , presented at the 2000 Banff Television Festival.   The series also took the Best Non-Dramatic Series and Best Videography Award at the 2000 Saskatchewan Showcase Awards.   Dennis also partnered with Angel Entertainment on the 13 part, half hour series, Spirit Creations .   As the Director, Dennis brought a unique vision showcasing Aboriginal fashion design.

Dennis continues to write stories drawing inspiration from his Mushom (grandfather) Philip Morin, who had hunted and trapped for his own twenty-two children in the north.   The company is currently developing children's stories for an animation series as part of its commitment to an ever-changing world in which kids can inspire and influence change.

Melanie Jackson is of Metis/Saulteaux ancestry from southern Saskatchewan and mother who shares her career in film and television with her life long partner, Dennis Jackson.   Melanie began her career by editing the 13-part series, Voices of Aboriginal Youth , for which she also acquired floor directing; camera and production manager experience.   Melanie also gained valuable directing experience on DTP's Ekospi Namew - At the Time of the Sturgeon.   More recently, Melanie is currently a producer for an animated television production entitled, Wapos Bay - There's No "I" in Hockey.

In 1999 Melanie was one of 12 people to receive a Ross Charles Award in which she received experience in writing, producing and directing for television training at the Banff Centre for the Arts.   Her editing credits include award-winning productions such as Open Fire, Heartbeat of the Earth, Christmas at Wapos Bay and Ekospi Namew - At the Time of the Sturgeon .   In 2004, Melanie was accepted to and completed the Aboriginal Writing for Series Television program at the Banff Centre of the Arts.   Melanie will continue her career in film and television production.
